Vitamix 5200 Juicer Review: I can get my kids to eat all kinds of fruits and vegetables with my Vitamix, so it was worth every penny! Their favorite is strawberry smoothies, with frozen milk cubes and some honey. What they don't know is I sneak in the green tops of the strawberries.
The Vitamix does such a good job, you can't taste the green part at all. It's very easy to clean - you fill with water, add one drop of soap, and turn it on for 20 seconds, then drain through the spigot and rinse. I love to make tomato soup, I add tomatoes, parmesan cheese and fresh onion and boullion - so good! I also make fresh bread crumbs and can even grind up wheat berries to make bread.
The juice that comes out of the vitamix still has the fiber in it, so makes it that much healthier, since fiber helps calm down my high blood sugar.
Two things I wish I could change - the large footprint; I have to store this under the counter, and it's noisy. I put it on a rubber placemat to help with the noise, which is a great suggestion from the company.
It comes with a recipe book AND video, both which are very useful. I mostly use the book, which has ideas from desserts to drinks to main dishes, soups, dips and ways to chop or grind cheese, meat, bread, nuts, anything you like, really. When juicing fruit and veggies, you do have to cut out any seeds, bitter parts or skin if you don't want the skin.
Also comes with a tamper, which helps you tamp down ingredients to make sure they go through the blades. The look is clean, and not too hard to keep it that way. Just make sure you ALWAYS put the top on and hold the tamper firmly when you have to stir what's inside.
