I take a certain delight in drinking cranberry juice. Watching people wrinkle their faces (in sympathy or horror?) when I take a big drink of pure cranberry fruit juice makes me laugh.
Cranberrries definitely have a bite. But that bite is an indication of some of the goodness contained therein. Cranberries contains: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, all the B vitamins including folic acid, calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, iron, and phosphorous. And that's just the basics.
In addition to its nutritional profile, cranberry juice has a great antioxidant profile. These antioxidants have been shown to have a wide range of health benefits. The most well known benefit is the prevention and treatment for urinary tract infections. Like all fruits and vegtables, the phytochemical profile of cranberries holds far more potential than modern science can comprehend.
The more we study it, the more obvious it becomes that natural medicine dwarfs allopathic medicine in effectiveness and freedom from adverse side effects. It's also much less expensive. My opinion is that we were given Superfoods like cranberries for a reason. Nature has its own intelligence.
When juicing cranberries, figure on getting about a quart of juice from each pound of cranberries. That may vary depending on your juicer, of course, but its a good estimate. You will also get a fresher, richer taste from fresh cranberry fruit juice. Fresh is always better.
If you want the benefits of cranberries without juicing it yourself, there are some great juices on the market. Make sure to look for 100% pure juiced cranberries. You won't find this at a regular grocery store, but it is readily available at health food stores and online.
If you just can't get used to the taste of them, there are also tablets, capsules, extracts and supplements available.
