Acid reflux is also known as Heartburn or GERD (Gastro-Intestinal Reflux Disorder). Acid reflux occurs when some of the contents of the stomach go back up into the lower esophagus. Because the stomach contents are very acidic due to the production of stomach acid, this reflux causes damage and discomfort.

There are a variety of things which can cause heartburn. Improper dietary habits is the most likely culprit for most people. Having access to a variety of foods is fun but can lead to health problems if your food choices tend towards processed foods.

Junk food, fast food, sugary and refined foods tend to be very low in nutrition and high in bad fats, refined sugar, refined salt. Add to this combination all the preservatives, artificial colors, artificial flavors, and other man-made chemicals. It's a recipe for heartburn.

By drinking aloe juice for acid reflux, the combination of nutrients heals damage to the stomach lining and soothes the esophagus. Aloe vera juice also heals the esophageal sphincter. That is the barrier between the esophagus and the stomach. When it gets pinched open or gummed open with mucous, it allows food to get back up into the esophagus. By eating healthier foods, eating smaller meals, and drinking aloe vera juice, you can have long lasting relief.

Traditionally, Europeans drink about 2 ounces of aloe vera juice 20 minutes before meals. We should all take notice of their aloe habit. The aloe shot before meals helps with digestion and preventing acid reflux. Aloe vera juice will oftentimes work when you already have heartburn, as well. If you don't like the taste, add an ounce of tart cherry juice or pomegranate juice for better flavor.

In my own experience, when I have an upset stomach, I drink an ounce of aloe vera juice and feel better soon after. I have also had good results with adding 5 to 10 drops of peppermint spirits.

In my work as a nutritionist, I have talked to hundreds of people about various stomach and intestinal problems. The combination I have seen the best results with is a probiotic, digestive enzymes, and aloe vera juice. This is a reliable combination that works beautifully.

If you have recurring heartburn or other stomach/intestinal problems, try drinking an ounce or two of aloe vera juice before meals. It works for many people and is easy to find. Either juice your own aloe in a quality juicer or buy a pre-made product from a quality health-food store.

If you do buy it, make sure to get a quality brand. My favorite brands are Aloe Life and Lily of the Desert. Aloe Life manufactures a concentrated aloe juice product called Aloe Gold. They also make delicious flavored varieties in Cherry/Berry and Orange/Papaya.

Aloe life is the best I have found but it costs a little more than others. Lily of the Desert is less expensive but still a fantastic aloe vera juice. Both brands are certified through the International Aloe Science Council (IASC), a sign of quality.
