Acai Side Effects

If you are concerned about possible Acai Side Effects, you can rest assured that there are no known negative side effects to 100% pure Acai products. However, there are some reports of reactions from taking Acai products with stimulants and other ingredients added in. Read on to find out more....

acai side effects

There has been extensive Acai berry research done on this Brazilian rainforest superfood, and all of the results so far are positive. Scientific studies have shown the berries and juice of Acai to contain antioxidants, omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, fiber, and anit-aging benefits. Acai berries, like most berries, are very unlikely to stimulate any kind of an adverse reaction. It would be similar to having an allergic reaction to a blueberry or raspberry. While it is possible that a very small percentage of the population shows allergic reactions to berries in general, it is not common at all.

Acai Side Effects and Medication

There are no known contraindications for pre-existing medications or conditions at this time. People taking medications for conditions such as high blood pressure are often concerned about possible interactions and contraindications. It is understandable to be concerned and research a new food before consuming it. There have been no results announced of interactions between any medications and acai berries at this time. There are also no warnings for pregnant women at this time. As with anyone who has health conditions, it is best to check with your doctor and a natural health professional before starting any new health programs, so make sure to mention it to them.

Acai Side Effects from Standard Dosages

It is typically recommended by Acai supplements manufacturers to ingest a dose of 1000 mg to 4000 mg a day or 4 ounces of puree. This dosage is much smaller than what the indigenous tribes in the Brazilian rainforests have traditionally consumed. No known negative reactions are reported by the indigenous people, although they regularly consume quantities vastly higher than 1000 to 4000 mg per day. Based on this and the lack of any other negative reports of acai side effects, it is assumed by many health professionals that this standard dosage does not produce any negative side effects and instead is an optimal dosage for getting all of the health benefits of Acai berry into your diet.

Side Effects from Mixed Acai Products

There are many Acai products on the market that are 100% pure acai berry puree, juice, or powder. However, some companies do add fruit juice and other fillers to their products. If you are concerned about allergens it is important to read the ingredient list of any acai berry product that you purchase. While you most likely will not have Acai side effects, you may have a side effect or allergic reaction to a filler item that is in your Acai product. Some of the fillers commonly found in Acai from certain companies can include guarana which contains caffeine, fruit juices, sugar and gelatin. Pure Acai berry or Acai juice is preferred in all instances, because you will be getting 100% of the health benefits with no dilution.

Reasons for Side Effects

One thing I like to point out in my work as a nutritionist is that many allergies and side effects can be related to overall health rather than one particular food being "bad". The allergic reactions people experience are based on toxicity in the blood and stagnation in the liver. When a person is physically out of balance from improper diet or lifestyle habits, they are simply more likely to suffer bad effects from anything they eat. It is really a matter of common sense.

I used to have a mediocre diet and was bothered with seasonal allergies and a strong allergy to cat dander. It was miserable. I would visit friends and relatives with animal companions and start machine gun sneezing within minutes. My nose would clog, my nose would run (and how unfair is that? Both runny nose and congestion at the same time? What a ripoff). My eyes would tear up and get irritated. All in all, it was quite awful.

I cleaned up my diet and focused on primarily organic fresh fruits and vegetables. I also took a variety of Superfoods including Chlorella, Spirulina, Wheat Grass Juice, Bee Pollen and Goji Berries (Acai Berry wasn't around in the U.S. yet). In addition to the nutritional changes, I started doing deep breathing exercises and meditating.

Within a couple years, I was (and still am) completely allergy free. I live in the middle of a forest with tons of pollen. No allergies.

I live with a huge cat (Sam) who makes sure to kick his dander around the house on a regular basis. As big as he is, around 20 pounds, he is the kitty equivalent of at least two normal cats...maybe even three. No allergies.

Not a sneeze, nor a sniffle or a watering eye. For anyone who has allergies, I would encourage you to research the truth about allergies. They are an imbalance in the immune system. You can heal them and be free of any and all symptoms.

In conclusion, negative acai side effects are non-existent at this time. Most bad side effects people encounter are not from fruits and vegetables. Most are from chemical drugs made by pharmaceutical companies. Many other bad side effects are from chemical pesticides and fertilizers sprayed on food crops. The rest are from chemicals added as preservatives, artificial flavoring, and artificial coloring. Humans are simply not designed to eat man-made chemicals. Do your research. Find out for yourself just how easy it is to be healthy and happy. In the meanwhile, eat Acai Berry products with the same common sense you would apply to all foods.
